Normanton on Soar WI

Normanton on Soar WI

Welcome to Normanton on Soar WI!

We are a vibrant group of women who meet on the first Tuesday of each month in Normanton on Soar Village Hall at 7.30pm.

At each meeting we have a speaker and we have a full programme planned for the year ahead, covering a wide variety of interesting subjects. This is followed by our business meeting, with sharing of information regarding upcoming events. We also organise day visits to various places. We then have tea/coffee/biscuits and the occasional glass of wine on special occasions! There is also our LWL(Ladies wot Lunch - this is how we like to call it!), where we arrange to go to new or recommended restaurants/pubs across our three counties.

Many of our members are from surrounding villages and we regularly support community events such as the annual Show Cate, the Show Presentation evening and our church fetes. We play a big part in running a monthly Luncheon Club for local elderly residents, mainly from Normanton on Soar and Sutton Bonington which is greatly appreciated.

The annual subscription this year is £54. This allows us to visit other WI groups nationally and includes the WI Life magazine posted to your home three times a year. There are two WI websites packed with interesting information, one is for our County Federation and the other for National Federation, giving details of activities and events that you are able to book in addition to our own. There are also free online courses available for members in many subjects for you to choose from, which have proved very popular.

Normanton on Soar WI is a member of the Nottinghamshire Federation of Women's Institutes and as such we have contact with other local Institutes nearby, which are West Leake, East Leake and Costock. We enjoy meeting up for our Carol Service and invite each other to various events and share ideas.

Please contact Sue James 07960 526114 or Fran Dimelow 07527 015440 if you would like to find out more or message our Facebook account, Normanton on Soar WI. Remember your first visit will be complimentary and we look forward to welcoming you.

Small electrical items can be recycled on top of blue bins

Residents in Rushcliffe can place small electrical items on the top of their blue bins from Monday October 28 in a new recycling service.

Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is seeking to increase the number of items that be reused and recycled and is now one of the few local authorities in the County to currently offer the kerbside collection.

Unfortunately, many of the items the authority now plan to collect currently end up being disposed of in the grey waste bin so the new service, which collects Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), is aimed at recycling smaller appliances and all items must be placed on top of the blue recycling bin.

Further plans to potentially introduce kerbside glass collections and food waste at home could be confirmed in the future. Changes will be made in due course in line with central government’s requirements under the new Environment Act.

Residents should never place the electrical items in the blue bin under any circumstances.
